Girls weekend..

My adult daughters and I are wanting to plan someplace to have an all girls getaway. Would Hot Springs be a good place to do that?

Any advice would be appreciated. We would be coming from Ky, Tn and Florida to meet there.

Girls weekend..

What are the things you are looking for in a getaway place?

Girls weekend..

We all like beautiful scenery and the girls love to shop and we all like to eat.

We had talked about several different places but a friend mentioned Hot Springs.

This would be our first gathering, without any men, with the 3 girls and myself.

We like to see historical stuff, too.

There are some things which I know you and your grown daughters would enjoy in Hot Springs: If you like historic old hotels, you might consider the Arlington and check out its rooms with long soaking tubs directly piped from the hot springs. You may want to reserve full spa treatment in the Arlington%26#39;s bath house, and its live orchestra weekend evening dance music on its lobby stage, and you would like its Sunday brunch buffet with a mucisian on the grand piano. The first Friday night of the month is gallery walk, with some nice art galleries open for evening strolls, beginning just across the street from the Arlington. During the day you%26#39;ll stroll down the grand promenade through the park behind all the historic bath houses and then enter alond Central Avenue where you can tour the Fordyce Bath House, which is restored to the way Capone enjoyed it. There are some nice restaurants around, including President Clinton%26#39;s favorite - McClard%26#39;s Barbeque, my own favorite Belle Arti (Capone would have like its great Italian dishes served on white linen table cloths), and a favorite gourmet lunch spot which women love...';1217';.

I would not want to lead you astray, and pretend that Hot Springs is necessarily the number one shopping or gourmet food destination in the mid-south, but I have the feeling you would have fun there.

Sorry about butchering the word ';Musician'; in the above message!

Thank you so much for that information.

It sounds like we would have a great time.

What time of the year do you think is the best to visit?

I will check out your suggestions for the hotel.

So, would we need a car or would most be within walking distance or reasonable taxi?

Arkansas has four seasons, moderate and beautiful fall and spring, often cold Jan-February winters, and usually very hot July-August summers. The Horse Races at Oaklawn Park occur in Feb, March and early April and the town is a bit more crowded but also kind of lively during that time. Oaklawn is a cut above typical race tracks with nice dining and attractive grandstands and clubs. There is a great documentary film festival in late October and a classical music festival I believe in the spring.... so you can pick and choose among what suits you best. As to a car...the problem is that you likely will fly into Little Rock, about 45 minutes away. If you get serious about HS as your destination, I can check on shuttle service prices and you can compare that to car rentals. If you should stay at the Arlington or a place nearby, you can do some nice walking in the area and probably get along fine. There are some botannical gardens and other sites, as well as restaurants you might want to use a car to get to.

Definitely April, May or October for milder temperatures. Not too cold or too hot. Check out Garvan Woodland Gardens for beautiful scenery in Hot Springs.

Thanks again to both of you. April or the end of May would work great for us. Or possibly the second week of October ..

We are planning this for next year. If we decide to fly I will post again on the subject of rentals versus shuttles.

We are closer than the Florida daughter so we may drive and just have her fly into the airport and pick her up. That would solve the car problems.

Definitely will check out the gardens.

The downtown is more than just the Arlington side also. If you walk down to the other end you will find the best quality art galleries. World Cargo is moving to the very end of the Historic downtown. There is also a yoga and very nice day spa if you continue up Ouachita St. And my favorite shop is Martins 831.
