few other questions please

ok i have done a good bit of research to get myself fired up about our upcoming trip (aug2-5) to hs. if we do stay at arlington, can you fish at lake ouachita? i read about lakeside condos. are there any close to the arlington? i read about the horseracing. sounds like alot of fun. will the races be going on in aug? if not, (really dumb question), what is simulcast racing? does anyone know if there is a way to get discounted rooms at arlington? we are paying 175.00/night. i called the arlington %26amp; they said the 11th floor has been remodeled %26amp; has new mattresses so that is good. i am so sorry for all of the questions. i have never been to hs in my life. i look forward to it, but i am just the kind of person who likes to have my trip planned before i arrive. tks 2boys

Perhaps a little geography orientation will help you.

The Arlington Hotel is in downtown Hot Springs. Lake Oachita is about 20 miles west of town...well it depends on where on the lake you want to go. Lake Hamilton is about 5 miles south of downtown, Lake Catherine about 5 miles southeast of downtown.

Live Horseracing season is from the 3rd week in January to mid-April. Simulcast racing is televised horse races from around the world...and you can place bets just as if they were live.

You can check out one of the many discount travel websites and they may have discounts for the Arlington.

I hope this helps.

We just got back from HS and we decided to stay outside of HS in Hot Springs Village which is about 20 miles from HS. We had a condo in a very nice wooded area with lots of golf courses and lakes and even 2 beaches. The drive to HS took about 30-45 minutes depending on the travel and weather. It was well worth the time and drive to get out of downtown HS. In my opinion alot of the hotels in the downtown area are old and outdated. There are several nice hotels around Lake Hamiltion.

You can fish on Lake Ouachita, though anyone over 16 will need an Arkansas fishing license. Not sure how good the fishing from the bank would be, however, so to catch anything you might need a boat (and, ideally, a guide).

A non-resident 3-day fishing license is $11, and you can buy them online or at most bait shops, convenience stores, sporting goods stores, etc. near the lakes. More info at agfc.com/fishing/license-info-fishing.aspx .

Otherwise, I think others have covered your questions.

bswscott, what rental company did you use for the Hot Springs village condo?
