Degray Lake Resort Or Mountainharbor Resort on Lake Ouachita

We are planning to visit the above area during the thanksgiving time. We have 2 girls 6 and 2 and basically looking for a restful vacation with little activity ( what ever the kids can enjoy).

Reading all the reviews and info we cannot decide between the 2 places. have never been to Arkansas before.

Any input with info on how the 2 resorts compare and the location would be appreciated.

TIA

Degray Lake Resort Or Mountainharbor Resort on Lake Ouachita

Here are a few thoughts but I can see how you are having a tough choice...both are pretty nice choices. I recently stayed at Mountain Harbor but have not stayed at DeGray in a long time. Both are well thought of in Arkansas. Mountain Harbor is a private enterprise, run by enthusiastic local owners and DeGray is a State Park, but well run also. DeGray is closer to you, only 7 miles off the interstate and the drive to Mountain Harbor is a little longer than may show on the map. From Hot Springs, it is a bit winding and slow. Mountain Harbor has an interesting variety of facilities...cabins, condo-type units, motel type units and there is a spa which has a good reputation. The restaurant is pretty good. It is an older property than DeGray but is in good condition. The lakes are both largely under-developed manmade Corps of Engineer reservoirs, with Ouachita being much larger. I think the setting of DeGray is somewhat prettier. I stayed in a cabin at Mountain Harbor which was rustically decorated and attaractive, but had no view of the water. I think the views at DeGray are a bit more dramatic if I remember correctly. One possibility, if you chose Mountain Harbor, would be to leave early from Dallas and drive directly to Hot Springs where you could spend a few hours seeing historic bath house row, and perhaps visiting the Mid America Museum, which is on your way to Mountain Harbor. Our kids love that place and so do we...it is an interactive science museum for kids. It has a mine you can crawl through and a flight simulator and other fun things. Of course, Hot Springs is accessible from DeGray as well. The choice is not an easy one. I have the feeling you will like either place. You have narrowed down to two nice properties..

Thank you very much!!

we opted for Degray and have booked ( tho still doubts in mind:-)) ), becoz it seemed nearer. The plan is to drive around during the stay to hot springs and the Ouachita NP, and may be go back there again for another trip sometimes later. Anyway during thanksgiving there could not be many activities near water.

The only thing which is bothering me Degray would not guarantee a lake view room, relating its on first come first serve basis. The view was one our our top criterias since its planned mostly as a take it easy trip:-(. hopefully we get lucky.

Thanks again
