Arkanasas Christmas Week

I know there is little to do

But does anyone have any ideas what to do in Arkanasas the last week of the year.

I did get great advice on Little Rock.

We are staying in Fairfield Bay with my senior parents and 2 teenagers.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Arkanasas Christmas Week

What activities are the members of your party interested in? How far from Fairfield Bay are you willing to stray? you can go to the website - arkansas.com and do a search for Fairfield Bay for activities there and in the nearby surrounding cities. Clinton, Heber Springs, etc...

Arkanasas Christmas Week

We will drive up to 3 hours to see other things. My parents like history kids may want a little more excitement.

My friend in Mountain View highly recommends an event called Caroling in the Caverns, which is a musical program held on three days during the Christmas holidays in the ';cathedral room'; in Blanchard Springs Caverns. The event apparently sells out and advance reservations are available through the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce at 888-679-2859. He gave me a link ozarkgetaways.com/鈥arol

even if you don%26#39;t do the %26#39;caroling in the caves%26#39;, Blanchard Springs Caverns is a nice attraction to see. to me, the shorter tour has the better scenery in the cave.

Here%26#39;s a few suggestions from ';Arkansas - Off the Beaten Path';:

In town of Batesville is the Old Independence Regional Museum (oirm.org).

In Harrison is the Boone County Heritage Museum (bchrs.org/museum). Open Thursdays only in December.

In Rogers is War Eagle Mill (wareaglemill.com).

In Morrillton is Petit Jean State Park. (petitjeanstatepark.com)

In Jonesboro is Arkansas State University Museum-Indian and early settler historical interest. Union and Confederate uniforms, weapons, equipment.

In Carbon City - 3 1/2 miles W of Paris is Cowie Winery Cellars. They have the Arkansas Historic Wine Museum. The first museum in the nation devoted to wine history of an entire state. Displays equipment, artifacts and documents from the 19th century.

be back with more later.

Flame, these are great ideas. I think I%26#39;ll try some of them. If k6012 is a Hemmingway buff, he/she might consider a drive over to Piggott, where Papa lived with one of his wives at the Pfeiffer House, now restored and open to the public. I think he wrote Farewell to Arms there. Sorry I don%26#39;t have the website handy, but a quick google can pick it up.

thanks jim. you have some great info on these boards. the book is ';Arkansas - Off the Beaten Path by Patti DeLano';. I bought it awhile back and got sidetracked and never really read it. just remembered it and thought it might have some good stuff for k6012. I too will have to check those out. Didn%26#39;t realize we had so many interesting museums and etc in our state. will post some more of them from the book very soon.
