Luxury Cabin Rental - Hot Springs, AR

Can anyone recommend or tell me if luxury cabins exist in or around the Hot Springs, AR area?

Luxury Cabin Rental - Hot Springs, AR

I had to locate a space for a family gathering in Hot Springs a couple years ago at Lake Hamilton and had to satisfy lots of picky people. I contacted the visitor center there and they gave me the name of several rental companies who handle multiple places as vacation rental for owners who do not live there full time. We did not get a ';cabin'; but it was what I guess you would call a ';luxury'; condo. I have something in my phone book which I think is the rental company I used but it may be out of date...1-888-477-2248. Also, you might check out ';Couchwood';. This is the rustic compund built by Harvey Couch who founded the Arkansas Power and Light Company and built the lakes at Hot Springs. The family still owns the compound but the last I heard they rented out the various rustic homes certain time of year. It is like those historic luxury log ';camps'; in the Adirondacks

JimJade - I attempted to find these cabins through a google search. Do you have any more specifics on them? They sound nice.

My family celebrated a birthday/family reunion at Couchwood in April of 2004--it is wonderful. The Couch family rents it out after Labor Day and before Memorial Day and reserves it for their use during the summer and occasionally on holidays.

There are a number of cabins on the property, and you can rent all or part of them. The main house - ';The Big House'; probably sleeps about 15 people. There are 3 other log homes available plus a restored private rail car--I think we housed about 40 people total They do not advertise--so it is rather difficult to contact them--we happened by the property when a family member was present, and were able to eventually book the entire property. There are lots of historical photos, and it is much like an Aiderondack cabin of Victorian times--Two presidents have visited the property, and it is on the National Register of Historic Places twice--You might find a contact through the National Register. At one time, I had a brochure, but I cannot locate it. It is in Hot Springs county, about 15 miles outside of Hot Springs on Lake Catherine--do persist in your search--being there was like leaving the world behind!

I%26#39;m even more interested in this place after reading the response from Texas. Does anyone else have information on these cabins and how to contact for reservations/information?

Aha! I have located the brochure. Contact name is Jim Couch, 501-374-4793. Here is the details on the various homes/cabins--

The Big House--5 bedrooms with either 2 twins, 2 doubles, or a double %26amp; twin bed. Each bedroom has a bath

Calhoun-Fishing cottage on the lake--1 bedroom, 2 twins with bath

Little Pine Bluff--2 Bedrooms each with a double %26amp; single bed, both have private baths

Remmelwood--2 Bedrooms with twin beds and 1 bedroom with one double--all with private baths

Magnolia -Private Couch railcar with two bedrooms, each with a double bed %26amp; private bath.

Hope this helps--I can%26#39;t emphasize enough how wonderful this place is!

Betty

Texas - Because this seems to be a ';hidden'; place, why do you think they have a brochure? Did they used to be more of a real lodging alternative and now only rent when you find friends of friends (or have friends on Tripadvisor!). I%26#39;ve searched for an internet site and can%26#39;t find anything. I took the phone number you sent and searched on it and I find Couch Antiques. Very interesting.

I think that keeping Couchwood rented is not a huge concern for the family. I think an earlier poster mentioned that Harvey Couch started AP%26amp;L and built Lake Catherine. I would guess that the rental income generated during the time of the year that the family is not actively using the property probably pays for maintenance only. Return visitors and word-of-mouth probably keeps it as full as it needs to be.

Another comment--the initial poster was looking for a ';luxury cabin rental'; in Hot Springs. Couchwood is not posh. Although it was built by an extremely wealthy man, it was his leisure %26amp; fishing retreat. He selected the point of land as his building site before the lake was created. Although most cabins have fireplaces, the furnishings are ';of the period';. Beds are mostlyvintage iron with quilt covers; many baths are shower only; and electrical outlets are sparse. Yes, there is a large-screen television in the main room of the ';Big House';, but I only recall seeing a couple of phones. The cabins are spaced well apart in a hilly landscape. Folks with mobiltiy issues would have problems getting from one cabin to another. Its ambience lays in its extraordinary location %26amp; history. It is a true retreat from the time you enter the property and wind through the trees, up %26amp; down hills, on your way to the main home.

I would go back in a heartbeat--if only to spend hours, even days, in the porch swing on the screened-in back porch of the Big House. Our family is trying to figure out a good excuse to go back!

on the subject of cabins in hot springs... has anyone been to or know of ';EdgeWater'; cabins? If so, are they comfortable and clean? Also wish to inquire about best thermal spa for treatment and prices experienced.

thanks
