Lakeshore Motel - Lake Village, AR

Hi,

Anybody ever stay at the Lakeshore Motel in Lake Village, AR?

We%26#39;re just passing through, and the website looks so cute, we just can%26#39;t resist.............

The area in which the lake is , is just farm land and really small poor towns. There is not much there to do. There is a few places to eat, some fast food and some local fare. The lake really is quite pretty. I have never stayed there, but have passed by on my way to the ocean many times. I%26#39;m sure you will enjoy it.

I can see why you like the Lakeshore website. I have not stayed there but contacted longtime reliable Lake Village residents who confirmed that the motel had recently been %26#39;redone%26#39; but unfortunately none of their visitors have stayed there. They usually steer their visitors to the Plantation B%26amp;B, a pre-Civil War farmhouse (870-265-5426) and that has proved satisfactory. The Lakeshore Motel website looks interesting. Let us know how you like it. They mention The Cow Pen (just out of town) and the Lakeshore Cafe (near the motel) as pretty reliable places to eat but usually reserve their special occasions for Doe%26#39;s, the historic Greenville Mississippi tamale and steak institution and a few other spots over the State line.

I stayed at Lakeshore Motel in Lake Village for a week last year. We had a large three-room suite that was like an apartment. The middle room was a large, fully equipped kitchen. The bedroom, with two full-size beds and large bathroom, overlooked the lake, and the front room (the living room) overlooked the pool. I remember the kitchen had sliding glass doors that opened onto a patio facing the lake. We had our coffee out there on a picnic table in the early morning and watched the sun rise over the lake.

My daughter and granddaughter came up from Jackson. The living room sofa made into a queen-size bed. Then another grandchild came, so we added the motel room that adjoined the living room. The rates are really reasonable. The three-room suite was about $75/night plus tax. But, of course, that was a year ago. I don%26#39;t recall what the single room (queen-size bed w/mini kitchen) was that we added.

They own the cafe next door, and the food is excellent. Wonderful seafood and steaks. Loved the grilled shrimp, salmon and fried oysers. And some kind of steak they called a Jack Daniels was absolutely delicious. We tried the BBQ ribs one night...some of the best I%26#39;ve ever had anywhere. Good live music most week nights and on the weekend. Just wish they served a country breakfast in the morning, but they don%26#39;t open until 11:00 a.m. Cafe has a back porch that faces the lake with giant rockers. Great place to have a glass of wine and watch the sun set. The locals and Lakeshore staff were very friendly.

Great shopping at Paul Michael%26#39;s outlet just 3 or 4 miles down the road. They have things from all over the world. And a fabulous antique shop. Nonie%26#39;s, I think. A lot of tour buses stop at these two places. Evidently, shopping there is an ';event.'; Seems to draw people from all over. We played the slots across the River in Greenville, MS, one night. It%26#39;s about 20 minutes to the east.

I wanted to do some birdwatching at the Lake Chicot State Park. A Lakeshore staff member told me they have organized events for that, but we ran out of time. I%26#39;m definitely going back. I%26#39;m not much on fishing, but even I enjoyed walking down to the lake and throwing in a line. The man staying in the room next to us caught a 47-lb. catfish on a rod and reel. It was something. There were lots of people staying at Lakeshore with great looking boats. There%26#39;s a boat launch next door at the Cafe. The whole place had quite a festive atmosphere with people cooking out on grills they had brought with them, eating outside (some rooms have patios) and kids swimming and playing badminton. Lots of wide-open space and a well-manicured lawn right there on the lake.

I have only one complaint: it was so relaxing, I didn%26#39;t want to leave.

Hope this helps.........Mary Lee

Thanks very much, Mr. Faulk, and we%26#39;ll be coming through on our way to the beach...........July 27.........wish we could stay longer.

Take care,

Kari Willis
