Hi
During our road trip to Memphis, Tupelo, Atlanta etc... we want to visit the Clinton Musuem, we have booked the Best Western hotel on interstate 30, which I believe is near the Clinton musuem.
Can anybody tell me what the area is like, is it noisy, is it safe, that kind of thing.
Look forward to seeing y%26#39;all in may.
Thanks for the help
Hotel on Interstate 30
I didnt remember a best western near the Clinton Library so I looked it up. It is actually pretty far away from the Library and in a kinda of bad area.
There are much closer hotels to stay in. I would recommend the Peabody, Doubletree or Courtyard by Marriott downtown. These are in the ';cool'; area of Little Rock and close to the Clinton Library. You can walk to the downtown bars and restaurants from there. You could even walk to the Library - if you wanted.
Also close to the Library are the Holiday Inn Presidential and the Comfort Inn. These are in a little worse areas than downtown but are close to the Library. So if you plan on being out after dark I would stay downtown.
Hotel on Interstate 30
Courtyard by Marriot would be the closest to the museum and you could walk easily. It is located on President Clinton Avenue and it a very new, nice hotel and is close to restaurants and bars too. Also right across the street from the river, which can be very pretty at night to take a stroll through the Riverfront Park.
I am not sure of where the Best Western is, but it is not downtown in our Rivermarket / Clinton Center area!
Hi Guys
Thanks for the info, I have cancelled Best Western Interstate 30.
I will look again based on the replies I have recieved.
Once again, Many thanks
I definitely agree with the above. It%26#39;s a good thing you cancelled that room...yikes!
The range of hotels in the rivermarket area is the best way to go.
There%26#39;s
The Peabody Hotel
The Capitol Hotel
The Doubletree Hotel
and
The Courtyard Marriot
These are definitely more expensive than your original choice, but it is well worth it for safety reasons, and entertainment reasons!
The bars and restaurants are great. On the Rocks definitely has the best drink specials on any given night and they also have a live DJ.
Have fun!!
Forgot to add:
If you need any suggestions on restauarnts please let me know! AR is my hometown and I was born and raised there. Who are you coming with? A spouse?
Let me know and I%26#39;ll help you surprise her!!
Hi
Thanks again for the advice.
I am coming with my wife and daughter, my daughters boyfriend will also be with us.
We are not drinkers but would like a nice plain american menu type restaurant.
My mouth is already watering at the thought of the steaks, scrambled egg(with cheese)
that kind of thing.
Once again, thanks to all the kind folks of the south, you never fail.
take care
If you like steaks you should WITHOUT A DOUBT make reservations at Sirloins Inn. It is amazing steak, chicken, shrimp...you name it!
Another place is Juanitas.
It%26#39;s Mexican food and it%26#39;s great and the atmosphere is neat.
Now, if you%26#39;re in the rivermarket area there are a lot of great restaurants there as well.
Sticky Fingers Chicken Shack is great more for lunch or casual dinner. Flying Saucer has great sandwiches. There%26#39;s also a WONDERFUL deli downtown...it%26#39;s called Downtown Deli...go figure :D. There is a theatre around there as well, for local plays. The Old State House Museum is within walking distance.
There are also some great parks. My favorite is Pinnacle Mountain. Now there are two seperate places. Pinnacle Mountain is where you could climb to the top to see an amazing view...oh i miss that. They also have nature trails, great places to set up a picnic, also a float trip could be arranged. The second location is the Pinnacle Mountain State Park. Here there is a small pond, and a tower to look out on. They also have family oriented events on their calendar.
Another nice park is Maumelle park. It runs with the AR River and it%26#39;s really peaceful. Not as much to do here though. Most people camp here or put their boat in here.
Hope this helps you out some more.
When are you planning to be in town and what is your length of stay?
Hi
All being well,may 3rd.
Not sure about how long for, we are moving about pretty quickly, Memphis, Tupelo,Chattannooga,Pigeon Forge, and just about anywhere else we can get to.The only problem is time, we have about 15 days from leaving Atlanta,Ga.
It sounds a bit hetic but it%26#39;s worth it.
We just love the scenary, the people and the weather, it%26#39;s a lot warmer stateside than it is here in the U.K
everything should be in full bloom around the state at that time, two days before my birthday.... If you make it to the river market, be sure to swing by the under ground pub during the day, Not for a drink, But for the really great pub fare that comes hot and fresh, The burgers are really good, as well as the fish and chips...ANd I think not staying at the best western is a good choice, some areas in little rock are kinda unsafe. But mostly the river market is safe, Alot of people around. One of the other posters suggested Juanitas, they have good food, But are not really in a great area. During the day would be best, at night it can be a little chancey because you have to park on the street, no parking lot...But during the day you have a lot of workers parked, so may be a little harder to find a spot... Anyway welcome to Our state.....
I%26#39;ll just add a couple more things. The Capitol Hotel is closed for renovations and has been for months. For a visitor to Little Rock, I would not recommend Sir Loin%26#39;s Inn, which is in North Little Rock. There are lots of options in the River Market area in prices of all ranges that would be much more convenient. Sonny Williams Steak House has wonderful - but expensive - food. Another dining option is the Clinton Library - I%26#39;ve never eaten there but have heard the Sunday brunch is great. Bosco%26#39;s is in the River Market and has good food that%26#39;s moderately priced.
