These three hotels are close to the best attractions in Little Rock:

The Peabody, The Doubletree and the Courtyard.

marriott.com/property/propertypage/LITDT

Not only are these close to they%26#39;re within walking distance of:

The Clinton Library http://www.clintonlibrary.gov/

The Old State House http://www.oldstatehouse.com/

You can find many other interesting sites here:

As you are non-drivers here%26#39;s a company that conducts tours:

There also is a quaint little english style pub in the river market called underground pub. The weather in september can still be quite warm, so take that into consideration when packing. the nights can be coolish, but not cold... And sticky fingers chicken shack is a great restaurant / bar that is located in the river market as well and has some good bands that play there. There is a farmers market/crafts that is open on saturdays right in the heart of the river market...

I would like to thank you both for your prompt and very helpfull responses. Undoubtably as I progress with the planing of the trip I will have a couple of more questions.

Thanks

again

I love Little Rock dearly, but six days is an awfully long time to be here without driving. The RiverMarket area is charming, but it%26#39;s only a few blocks long and I can%26#39;t imagine finding enough to do to fill 6 days. Would it be possible for you to include a few days in another town? Perhaps Eureka Springs - which is lovely - or even Memphis?

As usual Old CPA and Susan are right on with regard to a Little Rock stay. But, C%26#39;mon Susan, advising our potential visitor to go to Memphis? Just think what you could do in downtown Little Rock if you did not have to work or take care of responsibilities for 6 days!!

The following four museums/galleries could easily consume a half day each if truly explored:

Arkansas Arts Center (a short cab ride)

Historic Arkansas Museum (schedule a tour of the historic houses)

Old State House Museum

Clinton Presidential Center

Cox Center and nearby art galleries

Discovery Museum (it%26#39;s not just for kids)

Central High Museum (a short cab ride)

Trolley rides, City tours, Riverboat tours, visit to the Main Library, shopping in the river market. Hey I think I%26#39;ll take my next vacation right here in my home town.

Also, Prospect 1, my favorite Little Rock Deli/bakery is relocating to the River Market and should be going strong by September - Boulevard Bread Company. Do not miss Boulevard.

Though I fully agree with Old CPA about the Marriott or Peabody or even the Doubletree, other possibilities to look at for your stay would be the Holiday Inn Presidential or the Comfort Inn and Suites downtown. Neither are in as nice a location as the other three recommended but I have recently visited both for a convention I am planning and they are in good condition, they offer lower rates, and they each have a free van which will take you to nearby sites. The Holiday Inn is situated better than Comfort and is slightly more upscale.

Jim, Amen on advising visitors to leave LR and go to another city. One thing we rarely know about the folks inquiring about our city and state is what their interests are and their age and physical abilities. For example Prospect1 might enjoy the recently opened Big Dam Bridge. We assume that as they don%26#39;t drive perhaps they%26#39;re infirm. Maybe not, they%26#39;re from the UK and might not feel comfortable driving on the right.

A few other attractions not previously mentioned:

The MacArthur Military Museum

The USS Razorback

The State Capitol Building

C%26#39;mon, guys. No offense intended to Little Rock.

I give the exact kind of advice I hope someone would give me, particularly if I were an international traveler. There have been any number of people who%26#39;ve asked on the Memphis board whether 6 days is too much time there, and I (along with the Memphis trip advisor experts) always say I think it is. When folks ask on the Key West board about beaches in the keys, I always say the same thing - they%26#39;re awful!

My intent is never to belittle a travel destination but to let people know what to expect, in hopes they%26#39;ll be well-informed and make plans according to their own preferences.

You do a great job Susan. Thanks for your comments here to travelers. They are very helpful to visitors. I always agree with your recommendations.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the suggestions. Fot your information we are not infirm we just do not drive. This is not a problem in the UK as the distances to travel are not so vast and public transport is good (unless its pouring with rain and the bus is late again!). The trip we are planning is to Charleston SC, Oklahoma City OK, Nashville TN which we have visited before but only for a couple of days so we thought we would like to stay longer in each and we thought we would like to see something new. We are planning on spending three weeks in the USA and thought Little Rock maybe worth a few days for the somewhere new. Do you think it`s a good idea or not??

We like to explore and learn about the local culture etc.

Thanks for your ideas and suggestions all of which are very welcome.

I think that I would spend maybe 2-3 days in little rock....Since you don%26#39;t drive , you might get a bit bored being confined to the river market area....Little rock is a city that a car is a must, was are a commuter state for most part....I drive 100 miles plus for work a day... Have you thought about maybe spending time in san antonio Texas??? It is awesome and you could spend a couple of days in the riverwalk area in san antonio..Maybe split the 6 days between the two areas...Have you been to Las Vegas?? now there is a city that you can spend several days in one samll area, there is plenty of public transportation. and you can get great deals on places to stay.. Arkansas for most part is a state that going around by car and seeing the mountains, lakes, fields, state parks ect...is what our beautiful state is all about.....
