Tell Me About the Austin

My wife and I are going to Hot Springs and staying at the Austin January 12th and 13th with a company party taking place on Saturday. We decided to go on Friday so we can see some of Hot Springs and also enjoy the nightlife.

My first request is that you guys tell me if the Austin is really as bad as I%26#39;ve heard. Homeless people, 1967 wallpaper, 2ft x 2ft bathroom, etc.

My second request is where to go on that Friday to have a great time. Would love it if Hot Springs had any clubs similar to Vegas.

My third request is that you guys let me know if Hot Springs is a dry town(No alcohol sales).

Thanks.

Tell Me About the Austin

I have never dtayed at the austin, but it seems like that it does have some bad ratings.......But there are alot of people that really love the old vintage hotels.....Do you have to stay at the austin???

If the comapny is paying, I think that I would just try it..But if you really have concerns, then stay elsewhere.....

We now have (casino) They call it games of skill to get around the real truth of slot machines and poker machines...At the horse track in hot springs..... Oaklawn is easy to find.....It%26#39;s on central.....there are signs in town pointing the way....

And hot springs is a wet county...... There are a few real sleezy bars in town..so be aware....

I am not sure of any good places since I am not much of a party person....But you can drink at the race track. so you might want to start there.....

Tell Me About the Austin

oops, sorry for the mistake, Hot springs is a wet city, and in a wet county....

It%26#39;s early......

ask if you need help with restaurants.....

the Austin is a dump I think, but I%26#39;m not crazy about Hot Springs at all other than when I fly in for the Derby, but I stay in Little Rock then too

I checked with some Hot Springs business people and they all advised to stay at the Embassy Suites which is at the other end of the convention center from the Austin. However they were not as negative about the Austin as some of the reviewers on this website.

Don%26#39;t count on Hot Springs entertainment being anything close to Vegas. Unfortunately that went out with the end of wide-open (and illegal) gambling in the last half of the 20th century. Supposedly Tony Bennett introduced '; I left my heart in San Francisco'; at the long closed Vapors Club in HS.

Just enjoy HS for what it is...kind of a quirky mixed bag...historic bath houses (you can still bathe in one and tour another); nice wooded National Park with a ';promenade'; you can walk behind the bath houses; some art galleries of varying interest; a great historic hotel, the Arlington - a few good restaurants (I like Bella Arti just across from the Austin). Try to envision the history of the town...a place where people visited from all over the country to seek %26#39;cures%26#39; from the hot water and a place which Capone and all his buddies. frequented under assumed names in their heyday.
