University of Arkansas for Medical Science Little Rock Hotel

I need advice and opinions about hotels very close to UAMS (University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences). I would like someplace very nice, with good service, a restaurant and possibly an indoor pool as we may bring our children with us. If they were to provide shuttle service to the UAMS that would be a big plus.

Thank you in advance for any ideas.

I have not found one place which fits your needs exactly. You might call the following places and discuss their facilities with them: Hilton Little Rock 501-664-5020; and Embassy Suites 501-312-9000. The Hilton is very close to UAMS, has a restaurant and a courtesy van, but only an outdoor pool. It has recently undergone renovation. Embassy Suites is about 10-15 minutes further away from UAMS and has an indoor pool plus standard two room suites which are great for families, free cooked breakfasts and pretty good service. Barnes and Noble is across the street. My information is that they do not offer free van service to UAMS. This comes from their national reservation service as the hotel is not answering at this hour, oddly. Guesthouse Inn, 501-664-6800 might also be a possibility, though it has neither a pool or restaurant. It is very close to UAMS and was built for those visiting the hospitals. It advertises spacious rooms with kitchenettes and courtesy transportation, however I have not seen the rooms.

Hi - Thanks for the one reply, JimJade.

Another question that will help me here - I will be the primary driver while we are down here and I get lost very easily - I am directionally challenged.

I am trying to find a hotel very close to UAMS, but if the driving, etc. is easy, I can expand my search a bit.

To access UAMS, do I need to do any freeway or expressway driving or is it more neighborhood driving? Are there any neighborhoods to avoid nearby as I will most certainly get lost at least once or more?

Thank you.

Karen

Being from the Chicago suburbs, you will not find Little Rock to be a big or complicated city, and comparatively you will find traffic is fairly low volume. The hotels I have described are directly adjacent to an expressway, I-630, with the Hilton (and Guesthouse) being two exits from UAMS (which is also directly adjacent to the same expressway) and the Embassy Suites being 5 or 6 exits away (with the exits very close to each other). On the other hand, it is also fairly simple to go from the Hilton (and Guesthouse) to UAMS on city streets, through satisfactory neighborhoods. Embassy Suites will probably be appreciated by the kids, with the festive breakfasts, glass elevators, and the pool. On the other hand if you will be going back and forth numerous times during the day, the nearness of the Hilton could prove handy.

One other suggestion is the Markham Inn. This facility is right down the street from UAMS and gets a lot of its business from patients and families of the Med Center. It has within the past yesr been expanded and remodeled. Here%26#39;s its web site:

Go to Google Maps ( http://maps.google.com/ ) and search:

5120 W Markham St, Little Rock, AR 72205

You%26#39;ll see how close the hotel is to UAMS.

I also thought of Markham Inn, CPA , and it is a good suggestion for you to make. She seemed to want a full service hotel which I don%26#39;t believe this is. There is no restaurant that I know of there but there is an excellent place open for lunch next door, ';Jimmy%26#39;s'; . This is an old motel which has been fully remodeled a couple years ago. It is the closest to UAMS of all the suggestions.

Jim, I guess it all depends on what%26#39;s the most important criteria. I thought with the number of restaurants on Kavanaugh, in both Hillcrest and the Heights and the new Pei Wei in Mid Towne that being close to UAMS might be the most important. Granted the difference between the Guesthouse and Markham Inn is not all that significent.

Several years ago when our power went out during an ice storm, we checked into the Embassy Suites. We had a corner room, which was wonderful, and all went well until the power went out there, too! Our very brief experience, though, convinced us it was a really nice place to stay. At that time the restaurant was good - sort of a sports bar type of place - but I haven%26#39;t eaten there in years so I couldn%26#39;t vouch for it now.

Being directionally challenged myself, I can assure you that the trip between UAMS and the Embassy Suites is pretty simple. It%26#39;s just a straight shot out a freeway. There are several chain restaurants in the area and I think you might be happier there than at the Hilton, even though the Hilton is closer.

This web site may be of great help , it is from uams itself and it list all the hotels , and what they offer...
