questions about a resort and what is going on in april

HI can anyone tell me about emerald isle condos. We will be coming on April 14th and I wanted to know about this resort . has anyone stayed there recently? What can you tell me about the resort. and also what events happen in mid spring. is horse racing still going on? I have read about bath house row. This forum has good suggestions on places to eat. I have written them down. and the state parks.

Hi pastasalad,

Both hotels are on the same street, and are in a central location, but not in the ';touristy'; area. As for the Crater of Diamonds, the hotel wouldn%26#39;t matter. It%26#39;s in Murfreesboro, about an hour and 45 min. away.

Mc Clards BBQ is very famous! If you like BBQ, don%26#39;t miss it. It%26#39;s a small mom %26amp; pop place, but is very well known. You can buy their sauce for a souviener. There are a lot of great places to eat. If you can stay away from the ';chain'; restaurants, (Red Lobster, Olive Garden, etc), you%26#39;ll find a lot of hidden gems. My personal favorite is the Hot Springs Brau Haus. Even if you don%26#39;t like German food, they have pasta and several non-German things. The atmosphere is SO much fun! At night there is usually live music - mostly on the weekends, but some weeknights.

Also, come prepared for bad traffic. It%26#39;s Oaklawn race season, and there%26#39;s ongoing construction on Central Ave. Other than that, the rest of the city will be fine. Restaurants tend to be crowded after the races let out.

we stayed at the country inn and suites-except for a few minor probs it was a nice place with a good hearty breakfast.

we didnt encounter too much traffic-guess we got lucky on that.

The crater of diamonds was a fun expierence for the whole family glad we did that! No luck on finding any diamonds tho%26#39;

We ate at salsa%26#39;s it was really pretty good,excellent service and at The Cajun Boiler-the guys really liked this place.

We plan to come back in the summer and visit Magic Springs

Visiting in April for first time to the Arkansas Derby. There will be 3of us and I am wanting to take my mother for a nice steak and lobster tail? I was reading about Chef Pauls, Belle Arti and Coys? Of the three restaurants you name I%26#39;ve not eaten at Chef Paul%26#39;s but have heard good things from those who have. We%26#39;ve dined at Belle Arti twice, the first time I thought it was excellent, the second not so hot. Coy%26#39;s is an institution in Hot Springs. Their steaks are first class. I agree with CPA on Coy%26#39;s judging from your heading ';best steak and seafood';. Coy%26#39;s is noted for their steaks and they offer a steak and tail specialty. I am a fan of Belle Arti but would only go there if you are looking for atmosphere (in a historic building) and for really good pasta or Italian dishes. I have not been to Coy%26#39;s in a few years but if we were going there after the races, we would make it a point to eat light for lunch, skip the last race and head to Coy%26#39;s for a very early dinner to beat the crowds. I am not sure of their current reservation policy. I have not been to Chef Pauls but have also heard good things. Let us know how you like it if you go. Another great place if you are there for a lunchtime meal is Cafe 1217. It is an awesome gourmet type deli with big beautiful salads, and homemade soups and desserts. Get there early also even on a non-racing day.

We just got home from HS yesterday 3-16-07 and by personal experience I can tell you that Cajun Boilers is the absolute place to eat. The food and service there were GREAT. They serve any kind of Steak and Seafood you want, also alligator. You should go around 4 o%26#39;clock or have your motel make a reservation. I promise you wont regret...........We went 2 times during our stay.

I see that Cajun Boilers has been recommended. I%26#39;ve eaten there a few times and it%26#39;s OK but nothing special. It is a much more casual type place than the three restaurants you initially asked about.

I think the best steak in Hot Springs is at The Porterhouse, next door to Belle Arti and owned by the same people, the Garganos. I haven%26#39;t been to Coy%26#39;s for about a year, and it will be much longer before I return. Now that it%26#39;s no longer owned by the family, I feel it has gone downhill a great deal.

Be certain to have a corned beef sandwich at the track. Oaklawn serves the best corned beef in the country, I think. My New Jersey son-in-law agrees.

For pizza, Sam%26#39;s can%26#39;t be beat. Fresh toppings. The owner, Fran, cuts them herself. It%26#39;s a simple neighborhood bar and cafe, but good pizza.

Can anyone recommend a source from which to rent a nice cabin in the woods, preferably with amenities like a hot tub and king size bed? We would like an extended weekend away with nothing but the sounds of nature around us. Northern Arkansas would be 1st preference. Thank you !

We enjoyed LONGBOW resort in Prim Arkansas. It%26#39;s not really a resort, but , rather three isolated cabins, none in sight, or sound, of the others.

There are a couple of Beautiful locations in the Eureka Springs, Arkansas area. Check out the listings on the internet. I have forgotten the names of the two locations we visited, and one we stayed at, however, they are incredibly beautiful places in which to stay.

War Eagle Festival...how far from Rogers?

I%26#39;m thinking of attending a nursing conference October 4-6 in Rogers. Can anyone tell me when War Eagle is this year? And how far from the Embassy Suites in Rogers? How much drive time to Eureka Springs from Embassy Suites in Rogers? Thanks so much!

War Eagle Festival...how far from Rogers?

Unfortunately you will miss the War Eagle Fair if you come Oct 4-6. The dates in 07 are 18-21 Oct. It is maybe 30-35 miles from where you will be staying but you might want to allow an hour and 15 minutes to an hour and a half to get through there in peak traffic hours. (Sunday morning is normally the least crowded time). The Fair people recommend going Hwy 412 East from Springdale for better traffic flow, though that is not the shortest mileage.

War Eagle Festival...how far from Rogers?

Your conference will coincide with the fair. War Eagle will be aprox 15 miles east off Hgw 12. Eureka Springs is aprox 40 miles east on hgw 62. You do not have to leave the hotel however as there will be an indoor fair next door at the new convention center. If this is your first visit to our area, prepare to fall in love with North west Ark. Wife and I did 16 years ago moving fron Dyer Co Tn. Enjoy your visit

I checked with the Fair manager and confirmed the dates for 18-21 October 07. They also highly recommend the 412 East route during Fair times.

We are planning a trip for the week of Labor Day to Arkansas. We know we want to go to Hot Springs and then up to the Ozarks. Possible Eureka Springs or Mountain View. We live in the panhandle of Texas so there will be a lot of driving. We are looking for cabins or resorts to stay on the river that we could possibly walk out the door and do some trout fishing. We would like to find a place that is laid back, quiet and romantic but not too far from restaurants. Any suggestions on places to stay and ';must sees'; would be great.

You are not very far from Branson Missouri when you are in Eureka springs, and there is a wonderful Lake called Lake taneycomo that has some of the best trout fishing around.

Just got back from hot springs (july) this place was beautiful. i have pictures to share when i can get them on my computer. Take my advise get water when you go on this trail. It was hot and we hurried through most of it because we were thirsty i give it two thumbs up

It is nice but don%26#39;t expect a bunch of flowers ..that is what I expected and was a bit disappointed. It is nice but it is basically like walking on trails through the trees with some waterfalls %26amp; bridges along the way.

The flowers and flowering plants are seasonal. During the heat of summer, very little is blooming, but in Spring and Fall the colors are awesome. It%26#39;s still very pretty property whether in bloom or not.

Well there be some pretty blooms on or around the 16 or 17th of september?

The * denotes peak bloom.

Of course, this would depend somewhat on Mother Nature.

Peabody House B&B - Romantic retreat

My husband and I just returned from Eureka Springs ... our first trip.

We loved it! Great music and artsy town. Historical and lots of shopping. We were very forntunate to stay at the Peabody House.

Romantic, convenient to downtown areas but still private. I loved this place. We could sit out on our balcony and listen to the music wafting through the air from the Basin Hotel. This is a well maintained and beautifully appointed bed and breakfast. Don%26#39;t expect the regular B%26amp;B. You are not asked to eat breakfast with total strangers... instead you have delicious pastries delivered to your room and juice/coffee/sodas are inside your room. This lovely historic home is for those couples looking for a romantic secluded retreat. Look for mid-week specials on their web-site.

Jack%26#39;s has the best Catfish in the area and rivials any place in the state. It is owned by long time friends of ours (www.edsrock.com)

As far as golf, the best place to play is a little further up the road in Mountain Home (plus a great scenic drive) at Big Creek Golf (http://www.bigcreekgolf.com). It was given 5 out of 5 Stars by Golf Digest in 2004 %26amp; 2006. Many of our guest have enjoyed playing there.

Also, the fishing is going to be a little better this time of year if you go up river from Mountain View (which is actually not on the White River). Calico Rock, Norfork and up around the dams (Norfork and Bull Shoals) will be a little better in the hotter weather. We have links to fishing reports from area guides that are updated weekly on our site.

Motorcycle Trip Sept-Oct

My husband and I will be traveling to Arkansas Sept or Oct 2006 by bike. We will likely visit Eureka Springs, Fort Smith and Hot Springs. Any advise concerning motels would be helpful. We like to stay where we can pull the bike up to or close to the room, dining close by so we can walk not ride the bike, and a chair or two outside the motel to sit and watch to world go by. Any other info on scenic roads and such would be appreciated!

Try the Talimena scenic drive near Mena. The lodge at Queen Wilhelmena State Park is nice. It is really beautiful in the fall.

I would like to recommend the Coach House Inn in Eureka Springs. We just returned yesterday (June 19) from a trip into Arkansas. We left Tulsa on Friday and rode the Talimena Drive and onto Hot Springs for the first night. Ran into a bit of rain, actually a lot of rain on Saturday during our trip up Scenic 7 to Harrison and on into Eureka Springs. We stayed at the Coach House on Sat. eve. and stayed over on Sunday since the rain was supposed to persist (which it did not). This is a small motel(about 18 rooms) that you can pull your bike right up to and it is located off the street. Your bikes will not be visible from the street. You can walk easily to dining and shopping. All the rooms have a balcony that overlooks the main drag into downtown Eureka. I have stayed in a lot of motels in E.S. and this is my favorite by a long shot. Free breakfast, not just rolls and coffee. If you would like more info about the area, please email me direct. We stayed at the Iron Horse Stables outside of Eureka Springs a couple of years ago. It was an old motor court motel that had been remodeled %26amp; is biker friendly. We had a good time there. The restaurant had a bygolly good breakfast %26amp; very reasonble. If you like pancakes, don%26#39;t get a stack or a short stack, one pancake fills the entire plate! It was not the Hilton, but it was clean, had plenty of hot water %26amp; you park your bikes right outside your room. You might want to check into the State Parks. Mt. Magazine is north of Hot Springs, I%26#39;ll actually be staying there later this month, just before your visit. It%26#39;s a new ';resort'; park that%26#39;s supposed to be very nice.

Eureka Springs is a neat area to visit, lots of romantic cabins. Cherokee Mountain is good and a break from the Victorian look that dominates the majority of architecture there; it%26#39;s about a 5 minute drive to town from there. Going about 5 minutes west of Eureka is Katie Willow. It looks not too hot from the outside but inside they%26#39;re truly beautiful. Very secluded and peaceful. Also the Comfort Inn is nice, try the Jacuzzi suites for a larger, more romance inspiring room. It%26#39;s located in the middle of town, so it%26#39;s more central to things to do. There%26#39;s not much in the way of fishing unless you want to stay at Beeaver Lake. The Beaver Lake cottages are nice but book up very quickly.

Mountain View is a smaller town, with less emphasis on tourism. Lots of great little restaurants on the town square. Hotels will be mostly smaller versions of the big chains.

PS. I%26#39;m from Northeast arkansas and travel to that side of the state fairly frequently. It%26#39;s worth the drive!

I%26#39;m not sure what part of Beaver Lake you are staying at, but I believe near Prairie Creek Campground, there is a place to rent jet ski%26#39;s and boats. Prairie Creek is near Rogers, AR. It%26#39;s a great campground if you are looking to camp. It%26#39;s also nice for just a day%26#39;s visit. Beaver is our favorite!

just visited the area and stopped at a small day park at the dam that had a few tables and a roped off swimming area (a little climb up and down). The beach appeared to be rocky, so wear water shoes.

Prairie Creek Campground is a nice area. Camping or just a day trip is nice. It%26#39;s near Rogers AR. Also Lost Bridge on down the lake is nice. It%26#39;s not as busy and is a pretty area, depending on where you are. Look up reserveusa.com for Arkansas/Beaver Lake camping, swimming areas, etc.

My husband and I and my two teenage daughters are thinking of taking a four day trip to arkansas from Louisiana in a couple of weeks. My husband wants the girls to see mountains. Drive from LA to Hot Springs, Arkansas. Spend the night in HS where there are many good hotels and restaurants. The next day take in the sights of downtown HS, bathhouse row etc. Leave HS that afternoon and take Highway 270 west. My husband started looking at Eureka Springs but I worry it is too far for this short of a trip. We live in southwest Louisiana and it looks like it would be a twelve hour drive. I would be able to leave Wednesday afternoon and stay in Hot Springs and then leave from there to go on to Eureka Springs. What do you think?

Eureka Springs is an interesting town but you%26#39;re correct that it%26#39;s too far in the time you have available. If it%26#39;s mountains you want, Queen Wilhelmina State Park on top of Rich Mountain will fill the bill.

As for a hotel in Hot springs, Consider the Arlington. It%26#39;s the most well known hotel in HSand is located right at the end of bathhouse row. It%26#39;s a little dated but very interesting.

I worry about you getting reservatins at a state park at such short notice...Sometimes they are booked way in advance...And the girls might get bored with not much to do and it being so very hot still..Kinda cuts back on the outdoor fun in a state park. Hot springs is only a four hour drive from eureka springs, but with only four days it might be too far for you..But it sure is nice,,, I am going to gulf shores and back in four days on labor day weekend, and it%26#39;s a longer drive... Let us know how the trip goes.... I just wanted to give you some extra info in case you decided to try eureka springs...

It won%26#39;t be hot on top of Rich Mountain. It%26#39;s correct that you might not be able to get reservations at the Queen Wilhelmina Lodge. Also, you%26#39;ve been given a link to Trip Advisor%26#39;s Arlington Hotel site. As you%26#39;ll see the opinions are all over the map. I have stayed there and agree with some of the complaints however the Arlington is in the style of the grand old resort hotels of years past. I think that considering its location in downtown HS it would be a good experience. If you want a new hotel there%26#39;s an Embassy Suite attrached to the HS convention center.

Well as of this evening, the plan is to leave Wednesday afternoon and drive to Hot Springs and spend the night and the next morning drive to Eureka Springs. I%26#39;m assuming it has to be a very scenic drive. I need suggestions on where to stay in Eureka Springs. I would want to be near the shopping district.

I don%26#39;t think you understand the arrangements of the springs. They are all in the small National Park. There are only two that might be considered in a natural state. All the others go to the various spas, bathhouses and public fountains. There are certainly no place for any ';clothing optional'; activity.

Your other question: ';Can we sit in a hot spring?'; the answer to that is no, although you can certainly sit in the hot water in a bathhouse.

Hi, we just returned from a wonderful vacation on Greer%26#39;s Ferry Lake and now we%26#39;re looking for something for next summer. The place we stayed in is for sale so we need somewhere new. We need a place with at least 5 bedrooms. Would love something in this same area- but other lakes in Arkansas would be fine too. Any ideas anyone???

At one time the Camelot Apartments and the Sherwood Forrest subdivision area in general were considered upper class by Pine Bluff standards, now the area is middle class at very best. Lots of riff-raff in that area now, probably better to look in the White Hall area for an apartment.

Yeah, whitehall is just outside of pinebluff, I use to live down the road in redfield and it%26#39;s a nice , safe town..But there%26#39;s not a lot to rent in that area... Whitehall has a couple of apartment buildings to choose from..
