We are thinking of relocating near Morrilton or Russleville. Can anyone tell me about these places? We have family there and hadn%26#39;t had the chance to visit. I may have a new job opportunity close.
Morrilton and Russelville?
LOL. Looks like I posted the same thing a couple of times. Sorry
Morrilton and Russelville?
My sister and her husband and daughter just moved to Pottsville (between Russellville and Morrilton) from Russellville; apparently, they were dissatisfied with the schools in Russellville, but I don%26#39;t know the specifics. They like the area well enough, but they%26#39;re used to it (her husband is from there, and she%26#39;s lived in Arkansas all her life as well). I wouldn%26#39;t live there myself (I%26#39;m too much a city creature at this point), but it seems to suit them.
If you%26#39;re used to small towns with not a lot going on, you%26#39;ll probably fare better than someone who%26#39;s used to a city. Russellville%26#39;s small (%26lt;25K); Morrilton%26#39;s tiny (%26lt;2K). If you have a job opportunity there, make sure it%26#39;s one that%26#39;s secure for a reasonably period of time, particularly if it%26#39;s one that involves specialized skills -- there%26#39;s not a ton of economic opportunity about, and you don%26#39;t want to end up having to look for a decent job. Food products (poultry especially) and parking meters are the major industries.
On the other hand, it%26#39;s a great place to be if you%26#39;re into outdoor activities -- right on Lake Dardanelle, smack in the middle of the Arkansas River valley between the Ozark Mountains to the north and the Ouachita Mountains to the south, so you have world-class fishing, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, rock-climbing, etc. within an hour%26#39;s drive.
Of course, there is a nuclear power plant (Arkansas Nuclear One, operated by Entergy) right there on the shores of Lake Dardanelle, in case that%26#39;s a concern.
Russellville has Arkansas Tech University (http://www.atu.edu). Morrilton has University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (http://www.uaccm.edu) -- known at various times as Petit Jean Vo-Tech, Petit Jean Technical College, and Petit Jean College before merging with the University of Arkansas System in 2001).
I honestly don%26#39;t recall if Pope County (Russellville) is still dry (i.e., alcohol sales prohibited except at private clubs). Morrilton, in Conway County, isn%26#39;t -- that%26#39;s one of the places we used to drive to to buy alcohol when I was in college in Conway (in Faulkner County).

Thank you very much for your info!
I live in Iowa at the present time so little towns are not a problem. just looking for change and this may be an opportunity.
