Review of Riley's Station Outfitter and Hideaway

Just returned from a three night family stay at Riley%26#39;s Station. Our party included four adults (me, my spouse, and my parents) and three children (ages 9, 7, and infant). We stayed in the A-frame. When we arrived the Riley%26#39;s (who own and run the facility) were out with another group but the cabin was open and ready for us. It was clean and was stocked with plenty of linnens and towels. The only complaint we had upon arrival was the plague of house flies occupying the residence. It was annoying and a little gross but the adults went for a walk and set the kids to the task of whacking the flies (which they thought was great fun) and by the time we returned most of the anoyances were dead and their carcasses properly disposed. The A-frame will sleep a bunch of people (10 on the beds provided) but does not provide much privacy. There are no bedroom doors and the only privacy to be had are in the bathrooms-- each the size of a phone booth. The kitchen is adequate though short on counter space and stocked with nearly all the cooking utensils one needs to prepare any meal. However, I would suggest bringing a non-stick griddle for cooking hotcakes and eggs. Plan on bringing your own food becuase a trip into ';town'; for a bite to eat will cost a 25 minute drive one way. There is a television but no signal (it will play VHS tapes and the Rileys have a number of family selections that can be borrowed).

We hired Miles, one of the owners, to take us on a couple guided fishing trips. For the first we wanted him to take the kids to Dry Run Creek-- a short creek flowing into the Norfork River near the Norfork Dam. To fish this creek one has to be under 16 years old and it it chock full of huge (no exaggeration here) trout. We wanted him to show us some techniques for teaching the kids how to fly fish. Miles provided the kids with their tackle and waders for the trip. After providing a 15 minute primer on how to cast he took them down to the creek to get to fishing. Each of them was working their own rod less than 15 minutes before they both had landed 20';+ trout. Over the next three hours they landed one fish after the other. My daughter, who had never been fishing a day in her life, even managed to land a 28';, 9 lb. rainbow. They had a blast. The next day we had Miles take us fly fishing on the White River. We stayed below Crooked Creek and spent a full morning fishing. While we didn%26#39;t catch many large fish we did manage to pull out about two dozen fish each over a four hour period. Miles was wonderful on each trip and did a good job of making my novice children and wife (who only agreed to go fishing becuase the guide was there to take care of everything) feel comfortable. My wife and children had a blast and we%26#39;re likely to return in the future.
