Murfreesboro in December

My husband in interested in the diamond field in Arkansas. Would like to go during the Christmas holidays from college.

What kind of clothing. Where to stay? All suggestions greatly appreciated. He is a real rock hound.

Thanking you,

Weather that time of year in Arkansas could be almost anything. Generally, you%26#39;ll want to wear something that you won%26#39;t mind getting dirty. The diamond mine is basically just a big dirt field with a somewhat sandy soil. There%26#39;s no way to dig without getting fairly dirty. I%26#39;d expect jeans, a t-shirt, with a heavy button-down flannel or canvas shirt would be about right, with a light jacket of some kind would cover the most likely.

I haven%26#39;t been there in years, but my sister lived not far away in Nashville, Ark., for a while. There%26#39;s really no place in the Murfreesboro/Nashville area to stay. If you%26#39;re going to be in that part of the world anyway, you could stay in Hot Springs -- plenty of options, and I wouldn%26#39;t expect most places there to be booked that time of year. Hot Springs has lots of interesting stuff to do, so that%26#39;d be my recommendation. If you%26#39;re just going to be passing through on I-30, then Hope or Arkadelphia are probably going to be your best bets -- there are several chain hotels off the freeway in both places.

We are planning a trip to Diamond State Park as well.

So far the most information I have found is from ArkansasStateParks.com The state park has cabins available for rent, but from what I gather they book up quickly. You can request an info package online or call 1-888-AT-Parks.

The best time to go, if you really want to find any interesting rocks, is during the rainy season. While the operators of the park plow the field to aid in uncovering rocks, a good hard rain helps to uncover even more, making it less work on you. The have shovels and sluces (sp?) that you can rent.

there is a motel/hotel in murfreesboro, i can%26#39;t think of the name, but it looks very nice. i used to go to the diamond mind every time i would go and visit my grandparents, we loved it!! and about the weather u can never tell what it is going to do in arkansas.

We went to the Diamond Field in Murfreesboro on Monday, July 18th and then headed for Hot Springs on Tuesday. It is beautiful country but there is not much to do in Murfreesboro. But since you are going in December, there are a few shops on the square to pass the time. We stayed at the American Heritage Inn. It was a good value for the money, about $60.00 per night, although it was an older property but clean and well kept. I would say it was probably built in the 60%26#39;s and it does not include breakfast. The Queen of Diamonds Inn does look very nice but after I read a review and how they were slightly uptight about children, I thought the other property might be better since we had a 10 and 11 year old tagging along. Someone else said the showers were small at the Queen of Diamonds and that is another issue that swayed my choice since my husband is very tall. Murfreesboro does have its limitations when it comes to restaurants. I am spoiled since we live in the Dallas area, we actually have too many restaurants. The motel where we stayed recommended the restaurant across the street called T %26amp; C. It was a family style restaurant, very basic food. Watch out for the items on the salad bar. The broccoli was yellow and wilted, the carrots were a very, very pale orange and limp. I was not about to try the potato salad and cole slaw. On the positive side, the best meal was breakfast. Cheap and good! There is a Sonic fast food and the other restaurant to try is the Squat %26amp; Gobble. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays, fairly new and we heard the food is good. Unfortunately, we left Tuesday morning to head for the Diamond field. We did not find any diamonds, but you will find all kinds of stones - good selection of quartz. Only two diamonds were found on Monday. We did not attend a demonstration so for all we know we might have dug up a very small diamond and just could not find it. A more seasoned diamond hunter was there giving some good advice to my many questions. I hope this review helps you in some way. Our neices had a good time and I recommend this trip for anyone. It would be beneficial for you to spend a day or two in Hot Springs too since it is only about an hour away.

We just returned from a week long trip to Arkansas and went to Diamond Crater State park. It was OK. I was dissapointed because it was expensive to rent the equipment (take your own shovel and bucket and sifting screens) and there is a short video on how to do it and they turn you loose. Suggestion: read the big comment boards of people who have found diamonds before you dig, there are good tips there. Good luck!

If you have kids the water park at the camp grounds is super nice, although in winter it will be closed.
